Jonathan is from the Pacific Northwest in the United States and attended Oregon State University where he received bachelor’s degrees in Biochemistry/Biophysics and in Microbiology, finishing his honors thesis on RNA virus evolution in 2012. After graduating he spent two years working in the biotech industry at Siga Technologies Inc., where he managed robotic operations for high-throughput screening for antiviral compounds against Category A pathogens. Jonathan is currently part of the SCBMB program at BCM working on computational research to understand how protein structural information can help inform evolution-based analyses in predicting mutations' impact on protein function and disease progression. After graduation he plans on pursuing a career outside of academic research with a focus on strategic consulting or biotech.
